Empty divs and similar elements have default height of 0 and are therefore not visible – they can’t be selected or used as drop targets for child elements.
Pinegrow makes empty elements visible by assigning the class pg-empty-placeholder with min-height of 100px and a stripped background pattern. This class only has effect while editing the page in Pinegrow.
Here’s how the code looks like:
When you add a child element to the empty element Pinegrow removes the placeholder class and the element assumes its default size and appearance:
Note that the placeholder doesn’t come back by itself if you make it empty by deleting all its children.
